How often should i bath my Alaskan Malamute?

Question by Kate: How often should i bath my Alaskan Malamute?
I have tried to research this, but get mixed answers. Some sites say to bath very rarely, only really when he is shedding as it can ruin his skin and woolly undercoat, but some sites say to bath fairly often. He isn’t really a smelly dog, and when he gets muddy he gets hosed off in the garden, which he loves, but he HATES being bathed indoors. When he was a pup he got bathed quite a lot as he would roll in everything gross he found, but am not sure how often he should be getting bathed now?

Wow, a Mute. Cool. My sister has a huskey. You should brush him well before a bath. Does he blow coat, too? My sister has a rake. I don’t suggest that you bathe him more than needed. It does dry out the skin. I have dachshunds and I tell my new puppy owners that quarterly baths are fine. Weekly or monthly baths are not.

Is anyone giving away an Alaskan Malamute/Husky or Collie in the Brisbane area?

Question by steffie (:: Is anyone giving away an Alaskan Malamute/Husky or Collie in the Brisbane area?
About a year back our own dog passed away and we’ve just renovated our backyard. So we’re looking for a female puppy for our family. Preferably no more than 3 years old.
Greatly appreciated! x
Yeah, I’ve looked at a few pounds. We’re not going to start going and looking at pounds for a few weeks. I’ve heard of one at Rocklea that apparently has a lot of good dogs, but I haven’t been able to find it on google.

Alaskan Malamute starts to make noises and get alert whenever I watch Animal Planet, any reason?

Question by Lolz: Alaskan Malamute starts to make noises and get alert whenever I watch Animal Planet, any reason?
It gets really excited, alert and sometimes even starts making the woo woo noises whenever it sees another animal on the TV. Today he started jumping around.

Anyways so far it has been a great dog I got from a shelter, don’t know why everyone was telling me not to get one.

Does your dog do this too?

We had to stop watching shows like “Animal Cops”.

When my dog heard the puppies whining, she’d get really upset and start whining and pacing around. It actually upsets her to hear the dogs in distress on TV.

Poor thing!
